PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To perform building and mechanical tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferably hold a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Hold a valid Virginia driver’s license and be willing to obtain a CDL driver’s license with air brake provisions.
- Ability to plan work and carry out duties without supervision.
- Ability to work from specifications and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations in relation to trade.
- Physically able to do the work.
- Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel and members of the community.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/ACTIVITIES:
Job requires rigging and working on scaffolds, setting and working on extension ladders, walking on beams and roofs, and lifting and carrying 70-100 lbs.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Maintenance
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To repair, build, alter, and finish structures, equipment, facilities, and furniture made of or containing wood products; install or fix metal and non-metal fixtures.
- To replace or repair defective parts/components of electronic data processing equipment.
- To repair and perform preventive maintenance on food preparation and dishwashing equipment.
- To repair and replace window glass as well as operating and latching mechanisms.
- To repair and replace defective components, pumps, fans, capacitors, and leaking lines.
- To replace or repair defective parts/components of industrial shop machinery.
- To mix paints, varnishes, and calcimines, prepare surfaces for painting; erect scaffolds and apply paint with brush or spray equipment.
- To repair plumbing or water lines and water heaters.
- To repair roofs and perform periodic evaluations to determine required maintenance.
- To repair and replace blinds and window shades.
- To install or replace ceramic tile where necessary.
- To order and maintain supplies, keep records of work accomplished, and ensure that areas are clean after work is completed; provide instruction and checks the work of helpers.
- To unstop drain lines and service septic systems as needed.
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month year. The salary will be from the Maintenance Workers Salary Scale.
EVALUATION:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
