Description

This position will begin in January, 2025, and will go through the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year. 

 

This is a non-exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

 

This is light work that may requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

 

Primary Function:

To assist teachers in providing for the individual needs of the student in order for each student to achieve his/her maximum academic and social potential.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Hold and associate’s degree from an accredited college, sixty semester hours of college credit, or have a passing score on a Parapro assessment test.
  2. Be 18 years of age.
  3. Demonstrate good basic reading, writing and computation skills.
  4. Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to learn to operate and maintain a wide variety of instructional equipment.
  6. Have demonstrated the personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel and members of the community.
  7. Current VA drivers license.

Reports To:  Principal and/or Special Education Teacher.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. To comply with contracted work hour schedules.
  2. To comply with assignments and extracurricular duties outlined by the teacher/principal.
  3. To comply with all school board policies and state laws relative to special education classroom operations.
  4. To assist the teacher in implementing daily and long-range lesson plans.
  5. To utilize planning time effectively.
  6. To assist the teacher in the preparation of classroom materials.
  7. To assist the teacher in providing for the individual needs, abilities, and interest of the students.
  8. To assume a fair share of the classroom duties as outlined by the classroom teacher.
  9. To exhibit the necessary physical, mental, and emotional ability to execute duties as outlined by the teacher and principal.
  10. To perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/or special education teacher.

Terms of Employment:

The length of the contract will be determined by the Carroll County School Board. The salary will be from the Teacher Aide Salary Scale, and will be prorated accordingly.

Evaluation:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the school board policy and administrative regulations for the evaluation of classified personnel.
