GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Dorector of Special Education. This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule, which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities. The contracted salary covers all hours worked.

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To provide psychological services to students in accordance with policies and regulations of the school board.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold a master's degree in school psychology from an accredited college or university or…
  2. Hold a certificate issued by the National School Psychology Certification Board.
  3. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel and members of the community.

REPORTS TO:    Director of Special Education

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. To provide school personnel with general knowledge regarding psychological services.

      2. To assist in establishing and effecting procedural requirements for the assessment, eligibility and placement of  students with disabilities. 

  1. To assist in preparation and revision of local special education and Student Assistance Team forms.

     4. To participate in legal appeals and hearings regarding students who have been evaluated psychologically or are in special education programs.

  1. To participate in the special education eligibility meetings.
  2. To maintain inventory of supplies and equipment needed for psychological services.
  3. To administer individual psychodiagnostic techniques for the assessment of intelligence, personality, aptitude, achievement and perception.
  1. To evaluate and identify students who have learning, social and/or emotional adjustment problems.
  2. To consult with principals, teachers, parents and other appropriate individuals to help increase the understanding of students and to help to provide an atmosphere conducive to psychological growth.
  3. To conduct short-term individual and/or group counseling or assist the division crisis counselor.
  4. To interpret test results (including those from outside sources) to parents and teachers as part of eligibility or IEP teams.
  5. To consult on parent-child/teacher-student management behavior modification, and insight counseling.
  6. To provide risk assessments or participate in threat assessment teams as requested.
  7. To serve as a liaison between residential facilities and private day schools as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
  8. To conduct professional development workshops or consultative conferences for school personnel on request or as needed.
  9. To assist Student Assistance Teams and school staff in determining a need for formal evaluation.
  10. To assist in crisis situations as requested.
  11. To assist in the Gifted screening and assessment process as assigned.
  12. To complete documentation and training necessary for Medicaid billing.
  13. To perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Eleven-month contract. Salary to be from the Administrative Salary Scale.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the school board policy and administrative regulations for the evaluation of licensed personnel.
