GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Work is performed under the general supervision of the building principal, or designee. This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule, which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities. The contracted salary covers all hours worked.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To conduct the media program in a manner that supports the instructional objectives of the individual school.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold the Collegiate Professional License with an endorsement in library media NK-12. Experience in the design and production of resources used in the teaching-learning process preferred.
  2. Broad knowledge and experience in teaching, media programs, management, and administration of library/media services.
  3. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel and members of the community.

REPORTS TO: Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To select and acquire materials to implement the curriculum and to meet the individual interest, ability and maturity levels of students.
  2. To organize and distribute all media and audio-visual equipment for effective use.
  3. To participate in curriculum planning and program development and implementation and to develop a close working relationship among teachers, principals and other media librarians.
  4. To create an attractive environment and a atmosphere that encourages students and teachers to use the media center.
  5. To stimulate and guide students in all phases of their reading, viewing, and listening, so that they may effectively assimilate information.
  6. To provide instruction in cooperation with the staff in media and resource skills.
  1. To provide media center experiences to help students develop satisfactory personal relationships, social attitudes, and vocation and avocational interests.
  2. To conduct with teachers and volunteer personnel (adult and student) in-service and other staff development activities in the use of audio-visual equipment and materials.
  3. To acquaint the staff and students with the media collection and with new materials.
  4. To assist the principal in ensuring that instructional materials and equipment are used to provide learning experiences compatible with the educational needs of students.
  5. To perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The length of the contract will be determined by the Carroll County School Board. The salary will be from the Teacher Salary Scale.

EVALUATION:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
