GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Work is performed under the general supervision of the department coordinator, or designee. This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule, which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities. The contracted salary covers all hours worked.

Work may requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

 

Primary Functions:

 Ensure the smooth operation and functionality of the student information system (SIS) PowerSchool and connected systems.

 

Manage student data within the system, including but not limited to enrollment records, grades, attendance, and personal information, ensuring accuracy, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.

 

Provide technical support and assistance to users of the SIS, including students, teachers, administrators, staff and guardians, by troubleshooting issues, answering inquiries, and providing guidance on system usage.

 

Manage systems and connections to said external systems that integrate with and share SIS data. Investigate new systems and compatibility, work with vendors to make sure data accessed is handled properly and follow student data agreements.

 

Collaborate with stakeholders to identify system improvement opportunities, develop solutions, and implement enhancements to optimize the functionality and usability of the SIS.

 

 Develop and deliver training materials and sessions to educate users on the proper use of the SIS, as well as create and maintain documentation such as user guides and manuals.

 

Provide data required for federal, state, and local reporting. It will be the responsibility of the technician to prepare and submit data for reports assigned to them. Additionally, the technician may be requested to provide data from various systems and format it in a presentable and easy to understand manner.

Preferred:

 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in computer science, information and technology, or related field. Five years of more experience using PowerSchool SIS as an instructor, with two (2) as an administrator. Have been assigned or worked with the Virginia SRC and MSC reports for at least (2) two years.
