PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

            To perform building and mechanical tasks.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Preferably hold a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  1. Hold a valid Virginia driver’s license and be willing to obtain a CDL driver’s license with air brake provisions.
  1. Ability to plan work and carry out duties without supervision.
  1. Ability to work from specifications and oral instructions.
  1. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations in relation to trade.
  1. Physically able to do the work.
  1. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel and members of the community.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT/ACTIVITIES:

 

Job requires rigging and working on scaffolds, setting and working on extension ladders, walking on beams and roofs, and lifting and carrying 70-100 lbs.

 

REPORTS TO:  Supervisor of Maintenance

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. To repair, build, alter, and finish structures, equipment, facilities, and furniture made of or containing wood products; install or fix metal and non-metal fixtures.
  1. To replace or repair defective parts/components of electronic data processing equipment.
  1. To repair and perform preventive maintenance on food preparation and dishwashing equipment.
  1. To repair and replace window glass as well as operating and latching mechanisms.
  1. To repair and replace defective components, pumps, fans, capacitors, and leaking lines.
  1. To replace or repair defective parts/components of industrial shop machinery.
  1. To mix paints, varnishes, and calcimines, prepare surfaces for painting; erect scaffolds and apply paint with brush or spray equipment.
  1. To repair plumbing or water lines and water heaters.
  1. To repair roofs and perform periodic evaluations to determine required maintenance.
  1. To repair and replace blinds and window shades.
  1. To install or replace ceramic tile where necessary.
  1. To order and maintain supplies, keep records of work accomplished, and ensure that areas are clean after work is completed; provide instruction and checks the work of helpers.
  1. To unstop drain lines and service septic systems as needed.
  1. To perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

            Twelve-month year.  The salary will be from the Maintenance Workers Salary Scale.

 

EVALUATION:

 

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
